In the frame of the ForEST project, 9,000 good quality 5’-end sequences were obtained starting from bud mRNA (1 kb inserts on average cloned in pBlueScriptIISK). This has made it possible to enlarge the existing EST catalog (9000 root and 9000 differentiating xylem ESTs). These data were analyzed and annotated together, using the EPA bioinformatic pipeline. A 12,000 elements unigene set was then produced and will be used to produce DNA micro-arrays in 2007 (EVOLTREE project). Moreover, a data base of electronic SSR and SNP was constructed and will serve as a source of molecular markers for the establishment of a gene-based genetic map of Maritime pine.
