The autoshearer 96 is a robot which has been completely conceived and constructed by the Robotic department of Genoscope. This team is composed of J.M. Barbance, G. Gauguet and A. Trybou.

FUNCTION:
- Shearing of DNA from BACs in 96-well microtiter plates.
- Liquid handling (96-well plates).
- Removal of lysate in macro- or mini-plates, automatic transfer to another plate.
- Removal and distribution of liquid from one plate to another, with programmable volumes.
PRINCIPAL SPECIFICATIONS:
- 96-syringe head, 1 ml volume, equipped with needles and in cassette form. Interchangeable in 1 minute with no special tools.
- Two places for 96-well microtiter plates.
- One reservoir at constant level for rinsing syringes and needles, supplied by an automatically cycled peristaltic pump.
- Control of liquid levels in containers of clean and used water.
CHARACTERISTICS:
- Speed parameters for syringe pistons, lateral transfer and raising of microtiter plates.
- 64 programmes which can be personalized and memorized, permanently available for users.
- Dimensions of robot itself: width: 930mm, height: 1045 mm, depth: 670mm, weight: 80 kg.
- Stand with wheels available which can clear an 800mm doorway.
