GenProp0246 chaperone system: thermosome/prefoldin~The archaeal thermosome system is a group II chaperonin, closely related to the CCT complex of eukaryotes. Thermosome subunits show clear remote sequence similarity to GroEL of the bacterial group I chaperonin system. Prefoldin, with alpha and beta subunits, works with the chaperonin. The number of distinct but homologous genes for subunits of the thermosome ranges from one to five in the archaea, and this property is based simply on finding at least one, plus the two subunits of the archaeal form of prefoldin.
