Genoscope will sequence the genome of Xanthomonas albilineans, a pathogenic bacterium of sugar cane.

The genome of this strain is estimated to be 5 Mb. It will be sequenced at a depth of about 12X. Three different libraries will be utilized :

  • 3 kb fragments cloned in a pcdna2.1 vector (high copy number);
  • 10 kb fragments cloned in the pCNS vector (low copy number);
  • 20-25 kb fragments cloned in the miniBAC vector pBeloBAC11.

A total of 31,500, 10,800 and 5,400 clones will be sequenced from these three libraries respectively (reads at both ends of the inserts). A manual finishing stage will be performed at Genoscope.
