Ecologie Microbienne - UMR CNRS 5557 - Université Claude Bernard Lyon 1 - Villeurbanne - France
This sequencing project will be focused on the genomes of M. multiseptatus BC501 [Urzì et al., 2001] and B. saxobsidens DD2.
The aims and possible exploitations of the information derived from the genome sequence project will be:
To better understand the evolution of these genera and of the actinomybacteria paying particular attention to the analysis of gene duplication and gene transfer
To compare these genomes with those of other actinobacteria such as Frankia, Acidothermus and Kineococcus.
To understand the general cell metabolism in particular that involving fatty acids or aromatics with the aim to discover new carbon, nitrogen and energy metabolism of biotechnological importance.
To study the physiology and all the factors involved in resistance to desiccation and salinity, and the intriguing mechanism of survival in dry environments or under long exposure to ionizing irradiation.
To find a correlation between strains/genomes and rocks characteristics to better point out new methodologies of (bio)control of Geodermatophilaceae growing on stone surfaces and new techniques of restoration.
To find new insights about pigment biosynthesis, their chemical properties and the overall regulation of pigment biosynthesis.
To discover new biochemical pathways associated to biofilm formation, with the final aim to find new techniques of control of biofilms.
To explore the overall genetic regulation of morphogenesis, and of factors involved in cell wall, sheath and flagella synthesis.
