Sequencing of this strain is expected to yield a comprehensive overview of this unique bacterium at the genomic level, which will be essential to obtain an in-depth understanding of the microbial adaptation machinery to extreme conditions in the context of C1 metabolism.
Genoscope is undertaking the sequencing of the complete genome of the 20Z strain of Methylomicrobium alcaliphilum, estimated at 2.4 Mb using the PCR method described by Wilhelm et al. (NAR 2003).
The genome will be sequenced using a combination of 454 and Solexa technologies.
