Synechococcus

Whole genome shotgun of “WH7803” & “RCC307”

Project: Collaborative
State of the project: Completed

Collaborations :
An international consortium of 5 laboratories, coordinated by Frédéric Partensky from the “phytoplancton océanique” team at the Station Biologique de Roscoff (UMR 7127 CNRS and University Paris 6)
For more informations :
See the detailed web page on the oceanic picoplancton maintained by the Station biologique de Roscoff (in French).
Access to :

the genome sequence of the Synechococcus sp. strain WH8102 (at JGI) and spp. strains WH7803 and RCC307 (at Roscoff)

the genome sequences of the Prochlorococcus marinus strains MED4, MIT9313 (at JGI) and SS120 (at Roscoff).

Pasteur Culture Collection of Cyanobacteria

Cyanobase, a database which give access to the annotated genomic sequences of several cyanobacteria, among which Synechococcus and Prochlorococcus

The Synechococcus sp. WH7803 genome is 2.37 Mb long and its GC content is 60.2%. The characteristics of Synechococcus sp. RCC307 genome are expected to be similar. The first strain is axenic, while the second one contains a bacterial (non-photosynthetic) contaminant at low concentration. For each genome, three libraries are constructed, with mean insert sizes of 3 kb (pCDNA2.1 vector, high copy number), 10 kb (pCNS vector, low copy number) and 20 kb (miniBACs). The sequence coverage for both genomes is 10X.

The members of the consortium (see list on the other page) will be in charge of the annotation.
