The goal of this project is a better comprehension of the molecular basis of species and variants of streptococci which are in direct contact with humans, either as commensals, as opportunistic pathogens or in food. The sequence of two genomes, along with that of the genome of the alimentary strain which has already been sequenced, will provide data on a trio of streptococci, including a pathogenic strain isolated from a blood culture, a commensal and an alimentary strain.

For this objective, Genoscope will undertake random shotgun sequencing of the genomes of strains JIM 8777 and JIM 8780, for which the size is estimated to be 1.8 Mb.
