State of the project:
The main goal of this project is to obtain the sequence of the genome of the cephalochordate, B. lanceolatum, with a high quality assembly and annotation which will permit detailed comparative studies as well as a reconstruction of the ancestral genome of the chordates.
The strategy utilized will be to obtain a 100x coverage of overlapping fragments and to utilize a mate-pair bank (large fragments) from Solexa_hiSEQ for assembly.
