Genoscope is undertaking the sequencing of the genome of 6 strains of Escherichia coli and the type strain, Escherichia fergusonii.
For each genome, 2 plasmid libraries will be produced: 28,000 clones with small (3 kb) inserts and 9,200 clones with large (10 kb) inserts, as well as one library composed of 4,600 miniBACs with 25 kb inserts. Sequencing of the two ends of each clone will produce about 85,000 sequences for each genome, for a total volume of 600,000 reads.
