Genoscope is undertaking the sequencing of the bacterium, Deinococcus deserti VCD115, a radio-tolerant.
The size of this genome of this bacterium is extimated at about
3.8(pBeloBAC11) Mb. The genome will be sequenced at 12X depth, using
three libraries: about 24,000 inserts of 3 kb cloned in a pcdna2.1
vector (high copy number), about 8,000 inserts of 10 kb cloned in a
pCNS vector (small copy number), and close to 4,000 inserts of 20-25
kb cloned in a BAC vector (pBeloBAC11).
A manual finishing step will be carried out at Genoscope.
