The first step in the sequence production chain consists in extracting the DNA molecules from the cells of the organism. Since the sequencing machines cannot read fragments of large size, the DNA must first be fragmented by enzymatic cutting or mechanical shearing. Each fragment will then be introduced into a biological vector and multiplied independently in a bacterium. This step is called cloning, and the ensemble of cloned fragments constitutes a library.
