Sequencing of five overlapping BACs of the PIS locus

This project consists of the sequencing of five overlapping BACs, which cover a region of goat chromosome 1 which plays a determinant role in ovarian differentiation. This region includes at least 3 genes co-regulated by a common PIS region which, in case of homozygous deletions, causes testicular differentiation in genetic XX females. Two of these genes are situated at 280 kb from the PIS region. The sequencing of this region (about 500 kb) will make it possible to compare this goat locus with its homologs which are already available for several organisms (humans, mice) in order to determine:

  • whether there are other unknown genes in this region
  • whether other genes may potentially be subject to regulation by PIS
  • the location of conserved regions which are important for the regulation of these 3 genes
